About Us

About Wimberley EMS

Wimberley EMS is a 911 Emergency ambulance service that was established in 1976 by a group of dedicated community volunteers that manned a single ambulance.

Now, we staff three ambulances 24 hours a day, 365 days a year with 14 full-time paramedics.

We are an independent, stand-alone EMS service dispatched by the Hays County Sheriff’s Department.  We work with the Wimberley Volunteer Fire Department as well as the South Hays Fire Department and the Hays County Sheriff’s Department.

We are licensed through the Texas Department of State Health Services to provide two MICU (Mobile Intensive Care Unit) ambulances, which are staffed with two highly trained and experienced EMT- Paramedics.

This staffing model provides our citizens with the highest level of care available in EMS.  All of our staff is expected to attend continuing education classes that far exceed the minimum national standard.

All Wimberley EMS ambulances are fully stocked with the latest state of the art equipment and supplies.  In addition to our equipment and staffing, Wimberley EMS utilizes progressive treatment protocols under the watchful eye of our medical director, Dr. Steven Moore.

8 Year Recipient American Heart Association LifeLine® EMS Recognition

Director: Ken Strange

Ken Strange moved to Wimberley from Florida in 1985 after a 4 year stint in the United States Air Force.

After his military duty he was employed for eleven years by Lear-Siegler as an aircraft mechanic.

The last three years with Lear-Siegler he served as a Field Team Supervisor at Austin Bergstrom Air Force Base. During his free time at home in Wimberley he volunteered at the Wimberley Fire Department.

Ken’s career as a paramedic began innocently enough when he signed up for a class to become an ECA. (Emergency Care Attendant) He found that he really enjoyed emergency medicine and had a gift for working with people.

Ken was hired by Wimberley EMS on a part time basis in 1991 and began his training as an EMT. By 1995 Ken had received his EMT-Paramedic license and began full time employment with WEMS in December of 1996.

Ken learned the ins and outs of the business and accepted the position as the Director of Wimberley EMS in July 2004 and continues in this role today.

Ken has had the privilege of serving the Wimberley community in many different capacities and has been voted Volunteer of the Year several times. He has served on the Wimberley ISD School Board for 11 years and he and his wife are the proud business owners of The Med Spa.
