Why Is Your Gift Important?

Many people wrongly believe that Wimberley EMS is either part of the county government or is a private business. However, this is not true.  Like most EMS we are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and rely on your donations.

Like almost all EMS systems across the United States, regardless of their clinical sophistication, deployment strategies, performance standards and governance, Wimberley EMS is challenged to obtain or maintain adequate funding.

Since its inception, our primary revenue stream has been user fees — billing patients and insurance companies for services —  local tax subsidies, and grant funding to offset costs.

However, the challenge to maintain excellent patient care, especially in growing areas such as the Wimberley Valley is becoming more and more difficult.  Insurance and Medicaid / Medicare funding is slow and often inadequate.

Therefore, community giving is crucial to maintain and upgrade equipment, pay staff, utilities, fuel and other routine expenses as well as cover the needs of a growing population.

2020 Building Fund

Since 1995, our first-responders have been housed in the same outdated metal building. Realizing the facility is insufficient to meet Wimberley’s growing and diverse needs, we’ve broken ground on a larger, modern facility that will serve our community now and well into the future.

One of the benefits of the new building will be a much needed patient care room.  In our old building, we would have patients walk in after cutting themselves or experiencing chest pain and we did not have a private space to seat them and examine them. They would either sit in our billing office and she would  have to leave the office and make sure she did not have any sensitive info showing on her computer screen or we would seat them at our dining table where we eat our meals. So, we would have to make sure we thoroughly cleaned and sanitized the table before eating at it.

The building will take us from 4,000 square feet to 8,000 square feet. Not only will our building provide desperately needed space to house our staff, equipment and patient care, but will also provide space for an emergency command center to help coordinate volunteers and emergency response teams in case of serious flooding or other emergencies. The facility will also have classrooms for CPR and first aid training.

Although we’ve taken steps to help secure funding from grants and other sources, we now need YOU!

Our goal is high, but so is our belief in the people of the Wimberley Valley. With your help, we can continue our mission to provide lifesaving services to you, the residents and visitors to our beautiful area.

UPDATE:

Thank you for helping us meet our goal and raising $500,000 for our new facility! Our next immediate need will be a replacement ambulance. Please make a donation by using the Donate Today! button at the top of this page to help us continue to serve our great community.
